Black and white thinking. One is great other is trash. They are everywhere because of the lazy human brain, persuastive writing, media only having time to cover one side.
Apple vs Microsoft: Solution: MacOS virtual machine, or having two
computers.
Nature vs Nurture: It's both. A child is shaped by both.
Quality vs quantity: It's like those two multiplied: for instance 5 star
food but only once is worse than 3 start food twice. Not always that
quality is more important. But not that quality is not
important, for instance you may want high quality friends if you are
selective about your boundaries. However, I do believe high quality
friends better than many trash "peers". In the worst case it will become
impossible to manage everyone on the world even if everyone likes you!
So you might need to punish a quantity too high due to diminishing returns, overload, or hedonic treadmill.
High quality but useless = trash
Negative quality, high quantity is bad (School hours restricting freedom)
What if zero quantity? Didn't exist = better than negative stimulus. Quality does not matter for non-existent stuff
(I was thinking of food for this example)
Quality high, quantity low. Psychologically, you might be tricked to think its precious. And then may regret when its done so you hoard it.
Quality low, quantity high. You can be satiated over a period of time.
School is an amplifier of black-and-white thinking due to the fact that "maybe" is seen as indecisive (dislike of skepticism), and essays require you to have a strong side, and it also goes for things like debate, etc.
Probably true - like all else, to blame students.
In fact, from my idea critical thinking is literally one of the goals that school claim to invoke, yet they hate things that lead to indecisiveness - tricky!
