Wanting to collect as much as possible, without "using" it up (if applicable.)
When there is a part of something but not all of it, an irrational
will to get the remaining parts kicks in as there is a fear of missing
out as things disappear over time (even if they don’t, life is finite),
causing humans to attempt to do so.
Pragmatically, most collectors’ items are of
little pragmatic value (if ignoring resale) so it can be the sunk
cost fallacy taking effect.
E.g.. Pokémon card collectors. Due to the irrational will of needing a copy of everything. Or maybe it’s resell value, or fear of missing out even when the princes are close to extortionate.
For instance, shops offering limited time products leads more
sales.
Admittedly, I do have this, but only to a limited capacity. Obviously I
will also look at the price and whether it’s suitable, if it is cheap or
free, I will consider.
Technically, life is also limited-time, but is that too deep? Leading to
people irrationally cherishing the time they are alive? For me, being
alive until death is
just a fact by tautology, nothing more to it.
