That’s one funny issue in school. Many teachers teach so slowly because they add a lot of unnecessary activities like group work or discussions, and they always have to wait for the slowest person in the class; talking is much slower than reading, and school is meant for the average kid.
There is also an assumption that students would not do any more than the bare minimum; thus, homework was born as a way to apply what is learnt in class to test-style questions.
