This coercion kills passion by making people have to do things forced unto them by others, instead of their own intrinsic interests! The worst thing is that they have no defense against it, and self-doubt "I am great at my hobby but what is it for? Is it even valued?"

This can be social proof without any logic whatsoever - certification world, in a world that even employers have little time, not due to social media, but by the state of overpopulation reducing the amount of attention each person can receive.
