One interpretation where technology like AI and social media have gone so far where it suddenly evolved faster than tribal evolution or Darwinism. This is mostly true; it seems like progress accelerates exponentially every year, and old-fashioned immediate reward systems, for instance, killing an animal to feast on, are used against us, for instance, in short-form video.
Another interpretation is from Peter Wessel Zapffe, where he says
that human psychology is too conscious for its own good! I also consider
this to be true; humans are probably the only self-aware beings. Their
lives may also be made way too complex, compared to other animals, that
can just live mindlessly. Sadly, even if you try to suppress your
thoughts, unless you are very trained in things like stoicism or asceticism, it rarely helps, and
it consumes lots of energy for little gain!
Isolation: ignorance of the thoughts
Anchoring: Fixing onto values like family or God
Distraction: Focus on the external world
Sublimation: Turning the pain into a philosophy, a work of "art".
Number 1 is just psychological isolation and negligence, and the
thoughts would come back again and again if suppressed, so it is
bad.
Number 2 is just unnecessary, doesn't actually address the problems
whatsoever, and poses an additional risk: What if the value is broken?
(God may not exist, and you might not get the career you want)
Number 3 is the same thing: playing video games doesn’t actually help
with academics! Distraction can interfere with daily life and its
goals!
Number 4 helps psychologically, even if irrational, as you can find out
and de-burden the brain of thoughts about other things, so I would
recommend that one. Finding time to do incremental writing may
transform the awareness of the self, which is the opposite of number 1,
so it's good!
