"Overkill" effect

Just because im good at it doesn't mean I can become even more powerful. The curse of the gifted in math (I am the first in my form this year, BTW). In previous years, I would just go on and not revise math because there was no necessity to do so. I would receive contradictory advice that on one hand, it's not necessary, but on the other hand, I'm being too overconfident. There seems to be a focus on "natural". Anki[[ is seen as artificial. (???) Meanwhile, I know it would help. A bigger demonstrator of the effect: I didn't use the most effective spaced repetition flashcard systems for a long time called [[Anki or SuperMemo. But it seems like using an "external" tool is seen as too absurd for school! SuperMemo is a "scientist's tool", and the vibe of Anki was ruined by the fact medschool students were posting on social media about their burnout! I thought I was not suitable, but luckily, I realized in Form 5 that it is not absurd at all (if it's better than nothing, I'll use it against the Enemy), and I can use it to win over the memorization-heavy exam system! Now I realize that, with metametalearning, this tool can be used for most stuff that needs to be remembered (really), and my past self had a fallacy of valuing the mainstream.

Sociological causes

Needing to fit in and learning from others. Sometimes this works, but sometimes not...

Effort v.s. Reward theory

On second thought, maybe this is linked to necessary effort and reward not matching; due to diminishing returns, the brain stops when the reward is no longer worth the effort.
