If you wish to communicate about your troubles, or socially
uncommon thoughts...
The main paradox,
even though some people claim otherwise, is that it is hard to have
someone detached (neutral) while also knowing lots of
context.
The problem is that the more your communicative partner knows about you,
the sheer recognition that you're in big trouble can bring about pain.
The even worse thing is that you know, and you have to make a conscious
choice of whether to "disturb" them or not. For instance, parents
sometimes panic when they hear their child is under great stress.
Such people are very rare. If they exist, treasure them well! After all,
in theory, neutrality is almost impossible.
It can work. Unfortunately,
1. AI starts chats off
blind to your context, and gives generic advice! (This can
also happen if you ask random strangers on social media.)
2. Safety filters that can annoy you when you talk about bad things (PR
liability again!)
3. It's still only the average of its training data. Unlike humans, it
barely has synaptic creativity.
Still, much better than nothing, and at less cost compared to
therapy!
"Carrying the burden alone, sharing it with others," I used to consider a near-total lie. Utilitarianism's condition is that the fewer people are affected by the negative stimulus, the less bad it is. Sad things can clearly bring about negative utility. However, this can also be a bit dishonest. Rather, it is up to you to decide whether to talk about your struggles or not. In fact, a workaround is to write the thoughts down. It should help a bit. It can help narrow down what really needs to, for instance, be asked or requested, like a break from work.
