What was the default state of the universe? Nothingness or somethingness

Was nothingness the default state (or lack of it)? Because it was this before it was made?
Well, I have no idea how something emerged from it then.
But if there was something there wouldn’t ever be or been nothing…
But the fact there are humans to perceive it might suggest that metaphysical nothingness, metaphysical nihilism, could be a hoax after all...
