Life is all about conflict, I would say.
Conflict with the self on what to do, whether to study or sleep, what game to play, or what to eat... Simple conflict.
Conflict between government, countries… Conflict between freedom and the education system… large-scale conflict also exists.
Conflict with others when there is no way to satisfy both people's needs and wants…
It is important to deal with and “mitigate” conflict properly.
But life wouldn’t be better without conflict; the goal is not to make a world without conflict. As conflict is just a natural human will, and without being able to do the act of conflict itself, i.e., deciding which option out of multiple is the best, free will would likely be lost as everything would be a forgone conclusion, and I would be just watching life play out (Determinism).
The majority of the time, conflict should be constructive (eg, compromise), though not destructive (eg, war)
Progress happens through ideas or force. A conflicting idea or force is the only way to shed light on the flaws of old arguments. And it gives birth to a higher understanding or even a solution. Otherwise, nothing changes.
Personally, I don’t think conflict itself is good or bad; rather, it’s
natural.
For instance, let’s take a Good person against an Evil person.
The Evil person is a
murderer, but the Good person has recently set up defense systems around
his property.
The Evil person’s goal
is to murder the Good person; he is in a conflict because the Good person
wants to stay alive, as he has built up defense systems.
Conversely, the Good person’s goal is to stay alive; however, he is also
in conflict
because there is the Evil person who wants to murder him, and he might
bypass the defense systems.
Technically, they both are in a conflict of opposing objectives:
Good person - Life preservation
Evil person - Life
termination
However, the Good person is probably said to be the better one here
compared to the Evil
person. Or it could be said that conflict is inevitable regardless of
alignments.
However, please do conflict respectfully and logically. Emotional
pressure is one of the least satisfying ways to deal with conflict for both
parties.
It’s very common for things to spiral out of control, even on the internet, and others might feel attacked because they can indeed hold almost whatever opinion they want. Be careful of your confirmation bias and apply some logic to it.
Another conflict surfaces beyond the conflict itself: the relationship may have been damaged due to the conflict and what happens afterwards may conflict with their old selves.
