Desires

What we want.

Principles I desire

Old:
Power
Intelligence
Resilience
Courage
New: I've been fooled by school...
I want the first of all...
Wealth!
The second of all...
Freedom!
Freedom beats power over others all days of the week!!

How much should people desire?

Not too much such that they go reckless, not so little that they feel too empty.

What should they desire?

Food? Justice? Friends? Well, in the end, I'm not the one deciding others' actions, so it's your choice.

Why do people desire?

Because the brain wants what the person does not have or like more than the brain wants more of something it already knows it doesn’t like

What's the logical point of desires?

It's a motivator to action.

What if there are no strong desires?

Then less manipulated by one’s desires over general logic.

Desires vs happiness

Schopenhauer states not desiring to be happy (and adhering to the fact of pain) actually reduces pain (anti-pleasure) itself because expectations are lowered so more peaceful.
Happiness is just a state of little pain, but desiring it is simply expecting life to be near-painless: Anti-factual. Though it could be ideal, the real world clashes with it.

Desire for meaning but death occurs

Where humans avoid risk factors. Thus they feel scared when they do new tasks, and avoid risks… This can malfunction into nihilism, because once an organism is born they are guaranteed to die one day, and a human might say “What’s the point of living if it’s going to happen and I become forgotten.” Humans are aware of this, other animals are not
Wired to survive, but knowledge of certain death. Amazing paradox here.
