Determinism

Where everything is already preset, and we are just watching it "play out".
Again, this sounds quite nihilistic. And it may make freedom seem like an illusion.

Free will vs Determinism

It cannot really be proven or disproven, but…
Within time is a sequential barrage of events.
Some events can cause others; for instance, a parent being mean to a child can make a child paranoid.
Or someone suggests a restaurant, and they go there, start actually liking it, and affect the daily routines of the listener.
The brain does make decisions based on a whole bunch of factors.
Perhaps it’s kind of like the weather; one small wind can change it entirely.
Or perhaps people choose what impacts them.
Are choices even free will, or are they based on a large number of factors fed to the human brain?
But then if humans have no free will, is it ethically justifiable for them to get punished for crimes? Is it a way to determinism to cause them to stop, or scare them?
Is it actually an illusion?
But sometimes there’s no explanation for things we do… is it actually free choice made by the brain, or is it just emotional logic?
Or can humans make free choices, but in the end, factors influence them, so both exist at the same time?
Then, is it free will that people can choose a number between 0 and 100000 randomly? This one seems to have no deterministic factors.
But since computer random number algorithms are still, at the end of the day, pseudorandom, does it apply to human brains too?
It depends on how the Will even operates. If decision-making is all based on factors, then is it free?
Yet if everything is already determined, like murderers becoming murderers because of how they were treated? Why are they still punished? Perhaps this helps determine that others shouldn't do it too!
I used to not believe in determinism, but now I feel like it's getting stronger...

Determinism and free will existing together.

Yes, it can be said that the human brain can think and make decisions freely. However, one thing is what decisions depend on. It likely depends on FACTORS.

A gigantic number of factors like societal conditioning, past experiences, logical deduction, risk-reward calculation, psychological factors… they all DETERMINE the human mind.

So it can be that the factors DETERMINE how the mind thinks…. Is it even free anymore? Well, this is starting to become not as free as I thought…

Wait, what even is “free”? Technically, humans CAN do most actions in many ways possible, and CHOOSE, but CHOOSING needs FACTORS… argh.

The capability to make decisions exists, so free will could exist, but because decision-making is based on factors that pre-exist, it could also be determinism.

Factors that aren’t based on will are… random. Like assuming a “TRUE” random number generator exists, of which I deem none exist because even the most random ones are DETERMINED by atmospheric noise. So WILL has to exist.

Rewind time with the exact same brain and factors, and the same decision would have been made. Therefore, the choice could be an illusion.

Honestly, this is probably one reason why you shouldn't blame your own past mistakes. You may not have known, and later on, you will be subject to the hindsight bias. As the saying goes, everyone makes mistakes, and everyone learns from them.

Situatedness

Suggests that human thought, action, and meaning are deeply connected with, and dependent upon, specific environmental, social, and cultural contexts. This is basically Darwinism but with the surroundings and the need to conform. Now, the sense that the self is being determined by factors outside our control is very high..

The Illusion Experiment

Where you live an identical life to what you would have, but the people you met didn't really exist. In fact, it was all your imagination, an illusion.
I forgot its real name.
If others were just illusions! But you don't know! This could happen! Maybe you are in a dream your entire life, and you don't know...
This is indeed scary!!!!!!
It's so sad...
Like, this is the problem of not knowing others' brains. You only live your subjective life. You may think incorrectly about others, make generalizations only based on a small population, e.g., receiving huge blame from one, may think "everyone hates me!!!"
You don't know. You cannot read minds. It's hard to detect lies and truth. (only 54% accuracy)
However, this links to an interesting experiment, where if joy and sadness were determined, if you were only in a Simulation (that is identical to real life except the people are just not real), of course, if you didn't know you were in a simulation, you wouldn't have acted differently to real life (or felt)
So it is the Absurd, where you don't actually know what a simulation, or what life means, but sure, you can live it anyway!
I think this is the ultimate advice. Even if others may not exist! You feel good. You feel pleasure. You feel power. The power to control the self!
Control the self also means to LIVE ON! cannot die! Suicide is not recommended!
So there can be fear, but there can be life.

Psychological determinism

If I am controlled by human brain (hormones, stimulus, heuristics, thinking etc.) - it's all from mind and what it thinks.

Does determinism lead to pessimism

Perhaps it's school again. Most likely the thought that grades determine whether a pathetic life exists.
Rather, the recognition that determinism is more likely than free will may affect our mood because we "expected" "freedom" - in fact, if the universe was determined to be this case all along. Or perhaps in darwinism we never even thought of such deep things until the modern age - but they still instinctively knew they could move around much better than the children nowadays being "child abused" (technically not, but trapping them in home certainly can be like that)

Stoicism v.s. determinism

If determinism is true, Stoicism suggests its poinltess to try to change what cannot be changed.
counter: Stoicism leads to mindset and behavior changes; in fact, you were determined to learn determinism such that you wanted to see what things were truly out of your control to determine.
