Downplaying the past...

Hey! If future me sees what I wrote, it is very real, it's just that the brain forgets unpleasent things as a defense mechanism and survived through it. If you think it's not a "very big deal" then you are a victim of such a bias because NOW it's not a big deal for "your current situation". But it may come back any moment! Or it may not! But it still is not exaggurated for I write very raw and unfiltered-ly!

I wrote this to myself when I was sad. The brain tends to downplay the past as a defense mechanism (and also the lower relevence, and agency, of things that surely cannot be changed, as a form of stoicism). It was real, but brain distorts memories and think it was too extreme, while looking at its past self in the future.

This is the exact mechanism, the recency bias, why the archaic prussian education system seems justifiable! The current policy makers think that because they suffered through the pain (which does not make the suffering acceptable), the modern generation can too. This cycle may repeat forever if there is no intervention... Thus, I believe, kids should get a voice, and should be trusted, and should be informed about brain science, otherwise exactly that may occur!
