It is sometimes seen as a rebellion; in fact, there are historical
cases where governments tried to ban any beliefs that go against them.
Or sometimes, it can be too brutally honest, especially Schopenhauerist beliefs that say that the
world is basically in eternal pain and bound by a will to live even though there
are more problems than happiness in the human realm. Most people rely on
a delusion of constant progress and happiness to have motivation to
continue to live in a peaceful life.
Socrates was executed for "corrupting the youth." In reality, he was
teaching them to dismantle the trash arguments of the ruling
class.
When a person adopts a consistent logical system, they become immune to standard
manipulation that, for example, blames a person for their failures due
to “lack of effort” when sometimes it’s more so caused by external
factors.
Society demands
total transparency and shared beliefs; philosophy allows for a hidden,
internal kingdom that the law cannot touch.
Critics often claim that deep philosophy leads to anhedonia or a lack of
contribution to the zero-sum game of the economy. They fear that if
everyone realized the absurdity of the system, the unpaid labor and the
factory-style schools would collapse. Philosophy is controversial
because it reveals that the rock Sisyphus pushes is actually optional if
one is willing to face
the consequences of stopping.
Some may believe critical thinkers (who do not follow the
mainstream) are dangerous people; in reality, they feel scared because
it exposes the flaws of traditional thinking, and most people simply
learn from their surroundings without processing how valid the average
is, due to aiming to make human behavior predictable.
