Why group studying is less efficient

Some people say two people mean twice the power. This is wrong; the depletion of power is also twice as much. Additionally, communication and “teamwork” thus reduce efficiency even further, as it is often not actually time spent studying and can be skipped if alone. And in the exam, there would be no group, so it’s better to be by yourself and not be reliant on others. A common counterargument is that a friend can help you with questions you don’t know, but after the emergence of AI, even that niche is killed off. Learning is inherently a single-player game, as the only brain (where memories are stored) one possesses belongs to the person.

Remedy

However, socializing can be a motivation. On rare occasions, you may be saved from the status quo bias. Additionally, some studying is better than no studying. The reason is surprisingly where conformity can shine: having even 1 human around may lower the urge to be distracted, for instance, doomscrolling on social media, by a ton! However, you may fail to build independence! Still, group studying exists for a reason, and pleasure itself can be a great help in it.
