It exists: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok... It's infamous for a reason! Social media! The biggest time sink! Yet, people (even me on YouTube) tend to do that. Reasons include the fact that there is little energy consumption and perceived value. Even if you know it, you still do it. Gratification (short-term) comes. School is the antithesis of doomscrolling: Long hours of sitting or working.
It consumes the attention span of most children and teenagers, as there is no end and it is incredibly easy to use your fingers to scroll, and the algorithm draws you in. The infinite scroll removes the natural stops that exist in books or movies. It’s close to the lowest effort, highest pleasure things that humans can do - even if it actually doesn’t do anything useful.
The fact that students come back home tired and wanting a break can also contribute to this. Once a fatigued mind starts, it's hard to switch.
Theoretically, it can be a neutral action! There technically is no loss other than time, and it can be a source of great pleasure. In fact, it can be that the school has a dogma that it is important, and thus other things are a waste of time. However, if you do have excess time, and not really having other more important tasks, there really isn't much loss... It depends on the perspective!
Disgusting stories that I cannot tell are true or fake, including
vomiting, etc existed in the IGCSE subreddit. And complaints of
studying, stress,
etc.! I fell into "trauma bonding", but the problem is utilitarian
in nature: knowing others' problems just increases my hatred!
Worst of all, I was lured into a false sense of community: they help?
No. Exams are
zero-sum. Yet I was tricked by how human hedonism acts in the presence of a
"community"!
But we should clearly the misconception that all empathy is good. In
such an event it's best to keep the mind neutral and detached, seeing such
weirdness (people don't post normal stuff to social media) makes u burnout
too...
Makes me fear too.
Not doing that ever again!!
My advice now is: Come on! If it's bad, stop complain, and leave (unless
if it's school in
which you likely can't)
Back to detachment, honestly, the best way to detach is probably to
just avoid the triggers in the first place. If I don't go there, their
doomers' culture is gone for good. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
