Ending one's own lfie intentionally. Often frowned upon by society and even AI models. School can be one of the causers; suicide rates double when school is in season (in the US). Social media, countrary to popular belief, is less of a problem because I don't see such rates going up in summer (when you will likely use it more). We should help people reduce their stress levels and let them sleep more! And of course, make autonomy more possible! Those are the basic measures (talking may be temporarily relieving, but from my experience, doesn't address the root cause)
If procreation is neither good nor bad, then why is suicide almost
always seen as a negative thing? It’s just creating the absence of
existing of the self, and if you take the concepts of total suffering in a
broken world, perhaps non-existence can reduce overall suffering
utilitarianly (of course I’m not telling you to do it). Isn’t it just society
guilt-tripping sufferers to suffer even more?
Alternatively, it’s more likely because, in fact, suicidal people are a
bit delusional. That the worst-case scenario will “always” occur or
something, and think about a world too ideal that it likely won’t
happen, causing a loss of hope. And stalling a suicide can also cause
through hedonic
adaptation, the person to be more aligned with the current feelings, so
most say that it can get better over time, so it might be better to wait
it out instead because the biological will to live (which is
extremely strong) will eventually resurge to be more powerful than the
thoughts of the problems in life.
Suicide is neutral, yet overcoming the will to live is extreme pain
and that energy could be spent on other more beneficial things.
There technically is. Nobody stops it if done in the dark. Egoistic, self-interest in reducing their own pain... valid! I think that calling them insane is just by the living's standards.
Cause and trigger need to be differentiated; we put way too much emphasis by nature on the trigger(s) because it may be the only thing visible (the person is dead.)
I think the idea that life is worth living is linked to Sociology or Evolution. Due to the deeply ingrained belief, even if pains are far higher than pleasures, you simply refuse to justify that life is NOT worth living! You live before brain development; factors affect brain development in addition to the inherent will to live.
For the survivors have not the cycle of pain and boredom of living, yet got injured in the process plus the trauma of even attempting. Of course they would feel bad! See: Bias#In suicide
Saying that it is a permanent "solution" to a temporary problem. Not that I am encouraging, nor will I make a value judgement here. It's a bit tricky, because death might really be a null state.
Because it is inherent to human self-determination theory! Imagining solving all problems the consciousness can see by not being like that anymore!
If freedom is constricted to the point there barely is any real life
guilt-free...
then WHAT is the way, the likelihood they can do things like invent
their own meaning or enjoy the small things?
For the Suicidals, it is a value judgment that the pains are greater
than the pleasures - that the pains cannot be resolved even in a
majority, that it exists for way too long, and that it is irrational for
big institutions to change their way when they have full authority and
power.
Pain is temporary, but pleasure is even more temporary, and their life's temporaryness gets even more temporary in comparison.
Talking to anyone, including hotlines, simply will not change anything about the school system itself. It is really a distraction; in a society that expects action, it is denied, yet man is to live in a cage - with the illusion that it really can be solved in the long term - that is a tautology, because you might have exited school, exited work, but only with barely any years left to live! Now one really is burning at the futility of all efforts.
To spread the illusion that awareness can do anything for even a remarkable amount of time. It is an endless craving for what does not come, for it is perceived as a happy ending if it does, but only that - an ending, which does not last long.
Not just that, not just immediate- but a long-term problem is resolved by not being there, which you cannot do. As such, it will not be resolved when you are in it. Which is a big problem because the people who want to resolve that problem are the people who are exactly in it!
Lots of time, sleep, energy, and willpower are used up daily to hell, yet society knows and values all of these, yet the Will to Exit School - there is a Will, but students will not have the Will fulfilled - especially for the people who realized something more interesting yet are denied the chance to do what within school itself.
It drives normal people on the verge of insanity. If this was anything else like social media it would get eternal lawsuits but because it's school and adults aren't in school they just blame the children instead, and offer some superficial advice like "better time management to shift "responsibility" to the student despite nothing about school being ideal.
I think suicide is the trade of pain vs consciousness.
Is it really selfish? I don't think so because it involves sacrificing the self, and the removal of all the burdens on society one has: money, food, care, etc. As if the baby was never born. Perhaps parents had the implication that the baby would be normal. Which isn't always the case! Society can be really hostile towards young people even unconsciously.
It might also depend on exposure. Romeo and Juliet is a very popular story with suicides, but Hegesias of Cyrene who took its consequneces and ideas too far might not be that accepted.
Suicide: YOUR life also includes the adversities that are painful to handle, not just the "intrinsic value"?? Of life itself!
But then people now stigmatize the person for lack of resilience!. When the problem was the problem all along! No justification for such a problem that can lead to the will to live being compromised so badly!
