Willpower

When the brain desires one thing ideally but pragmatism forces it to the other and you try to exert power to do the more useful thing!
Natural intention and controlled motivation don’t get along for the majority of a human’s life.
Willpower over-usage leads to burning out and stopping early! And when setbacks kick in, for instance academic responsibilities, controlled goals may have a hard time competing against natural intentions. This is because the usage of willpower will never stop, so the human mind might not feel like its needs are met. Plans for these things usually get dropped after a while.
However, when goals reflect peoples’ authentic values and interests, it increases goal progress and effort, decreases risk of dropping out, increases goal attainment and also reduces distraction!
Research shows willpower is an independent risk factor for action paralysis: This is insane, but it actually is the case.

Do you need willpower for consistency?

No, pretty much not at all! Disproof by contradiction: Little willpower is needed for consistency to play videogames, or spend time on social media, due to immediate gratification! Consistency comes mainly from WANTS! Consistency can come with willpower, but willpower is horribly limited and unpredictable, so it’s usually better to just use intrinsic drives to do actions on a consistent basis! Unfortunately, this mostly only occurs when you have agency (not examination system). That’s why people like habits, but they just raise the floor for behavior, not causing people to excel any more by themselves, so I don’t recommend it!
